Juanita Beach Park

A revitalized Juanita Beach in Kirkland Washington works for people and the environment. A new waterfront promenade and circulation system provides universal access that leads from the parking area and park entries to the beach, while allowing visitors to enjoy the scenic views from benches and seating walls. "The Commons" gathering space offers sloped lawn seating and a stage for concerts and festivals. Innovative stormwater features capture and treat pollutants from the parking areas and Juanita Creek, which flows through the park. Contamination from stormwater and Juanita Creek has long impacted water quality at the park's swimming beach. The design strives to capture and treat pollutants in rain gardens, bio-filtration swales, wet meadows, and a constructed emergent marsh.
