Herring’s House Park

J.A. Brennan planned and designed enhanced wildlife habitat and passive park facilities for this 15-acre site on the Duwamish River in Seattle.  J.A. Brennan used an innovative approach to site grading, combining habitat requirements with sculpted, flowing forms to create a uniquely beautiful and functional intertidal aquatic habitat.  Careful attention was given to construction of shore protection and the development of a suitable substrate for the aquatic habitat.  Construction involved extensive grading of the site, restoring inter-tidal areas and uplands, and re-grading off-shore areas to create more productive habitat for salmonids. Recreational development at the park includes a parking area, accessible paths, trails, picnic areas, interpretive signage, and outdoor classroom areas.
